I walked out onto our front porch today and found a tiny black kitten sunning himself on wicker furniture. I startled him and he ran away and hid in our bushes the rest of the afternoon. You could hear him crying from inside the house, he sounds so lonely. I texted Bruce, whom I consider to be a cat expert, for advice on how to befriend the kitten and this was his reply.

Crouch down and approach slowly! The bigger you are the scarier you will be. Don't be aggressive; let the little guy know that you're not going to hurt him by essentially not paying attention to him when he runs away (don't go after him, except maybe a little bit). Get right outside his comfort zone and put your hand out, palm up. Put it very close to the ground, below his adorable little nose. It's a sign of peace as it's not coming in from an "attacking" angle and the palm up shows that you don't have anything in your hand. Put a slice of ham in there and I bet he'll love you forever!

KITTENS!

I'll let you know if it works.

In other news, I get my wisdom teeth out tomorrow. My dad told me that when he went to get his wisdom teeth out, he didn't realize he needed someone to drive him home. So instead of going under for the procedure, he only got a local anesthesia and could hear them cracking the wisdom teeth to get them out.

So gross.

outlook not so good [Jun. 12th, 2007|09:39 pm]
[Music |sea wolf - you're a wolf]

I am starting to feel as if I may never find a place to live in NYC. I check craigslist daily, HOURLY EVEN, and either the apartments are out of my price range or the people are too creepy. I read one posting recently that listed tolerance of racism as a roommate requirement.

SOMEONE HELP ME, PLEASE!

Sovay, all along the day [May. 7th, 2007|10:12 pm]
Tonight,Cory and I were each given the Jack Brickhouse/WRBU award for outstanding service to the student radio station, which Mark nominated us for. Usually this award goes to the Station Manager, but this year Mark gave it to us. It was very sweet. I guess it is only fitting that tomorrow is also my last show as an Edge DJ.

[Music |Sea Wolf]

An update:
- Some jerk stole my camera at Keg for the Cure, thus putting my Project 365 New Years resolution on hold.
- I've been working nearly 30 hours a week since then in order to try and afford a new one. It should (hopefully) come tomorrow.
- I graduate in less than a month.
- I've decided to join AmeriCorps after graduation and it's something I'm excited about. I've applied to a few different programs around the nation, but I get too nervous talking about it because I don't want to jinx anything.

That's pretty  much all I've got.

Ariel and I had a contest running to see which of us had the worse apartment building. My complaint was that I have rats I can hear in the ceiling above me. However, last week we declared Ariel the winner when she had a bat stuck in the hallway of her building.

There's been a new development.

I was doing my laundry this evening and I reached down into the bottom of the washing machine to grab a stray black sock. Instead, what I pick up is a DEAD BAT!

Technically I may have won, but in reality I'm the bigger loser.

I called my dad and he laughed at me. I called Bruce and no answer. I called Cory and I cried. I called my landlord and he's coming tomorrow. All that was left to do was take a picture.

I may need to buy new clothes.

Pictures? )

[Music |hold]

Due to the massive snow storm that has randomly hit NYC, my flight (and Cory's) has been canceled.
ATA has me on hold, while I try and find out what I can do next.

Happy SPRING BREAK, indeed!

You don't understand how good it feels to wake up at 6am, to finish the homework you didn't finish last night, and then receive an e-mail from your professor telling you that class was cancelled! Now I have no regrets about staying up late and listening to all that Whitney Houston.

Merry Merry [Dec. 26th, 2006|01:27 am]
[Music |Scattered Leaves - The Be Good Tanyas]

I bought Christmas cards to mail out to all of you, but as per usual I'm slow to get them sent out. You probably won't get them until New Years. Sadly they won't aren't as festive as I would like, because the post office ran out of holiday stamps. You'll be getting Mickey Mantle decorated cards instead.

Christmas Break as been good. I was able to be at home for  four days this break, which is better than the three I was able to spend at home last year. I'm particularly glad to be home because the water in my apartment is consistently lukewarm and I'm tired of taking cold showers. However, Carthage is in a water shortage at the moment, so my nice warm showers at home aren't able to be as long as I would like. C'est le vie.

I hope you're all getting as excited for New Years as I am. But if you're not, that's okay. I'm getting plenty excited for us all.

Merry Christmas!
